Buying a Christmas wreath sounds simple — until you're staring at four sizes, six styles and a wall of "pre-lit" options. This guide walks through the three decisions that actually matter: size, style and lights, using our own 2026 pre-lit line as the examples so every number below is a real one you can check.

A pre-lit Christmas wreath with warm white lights, red berries and pinecones on a front door at dusk in falling snow

1. Start with size, not style

Measure your door first. A good rule of thumb is a wreath that spans about half to two-thirds of the door's width — enough presence to read from the street, without crowding the handle or the frame.

  • 20–22 inch — apartment doors, narrower 30–32" doors, interior doors and windows. Light and easy to hang anywhere.
  • 24 inch — the classic choice for a standard 36" front door, and the most popular size over a mantel.
  • 26 inch — oversized or double doors, wide mantels and open walls where a 24" looks lost.

One more measurement people forget: depth. If your wreath will live between a door and a storm door, check the profile — our flocked red-ball wreath is 4 inches deep, slim enough to close behind glass.

2. Pick a style that matches your home

Style is where the wreath earns its compliments. Our 2026 pre-lit line covers the looks we see ordered most:

Classic red — the 20" Pre-Lit Red Plaid Bow Ball Wreath ($44.99). Red plaid bows, shiny red-and-gold baubles and natural pinecones on lush pine. The traditional Christmas door.

Elegant white — the 20" Pre-Lit White Bow and Ball Wreath ($45.99). White bows and glossy baubles for a soft, sophisticated look, indoors or on a covered porch.

Cool blue — the 22" Pre-Lit Blue Bow and Ball Wreath ($45.99). A blue bow with multi-toned ornaments — a refreshing break from red-and-green.

Natural cedar — the 24" Pre-Lit Cedar & Pinecone Wreath ($49.99). Two tones of cedar, frosted red berries and whitewashed pinecones. Sixteen branch sections make it the fullest, most substantial ring we sell at 1.18 kg.

Snowy flocked — two ways to get the fresh-snow look. The 24" Pre-Lit Flocked Berry Wreath ($49.99) mixes red and blue berry sprays among the pinecones:

The 24" Pre-Lit Red Ball & Snowy Flocked Wreath ($49.99) goes classic, with red ornaments under the snow:

Gold glam — the 26" Pre-Lit Gold Ornament Wreath ($59.99). Gold berry sprays, pearl accents and mixed-finish baubles over cedar-style greenery — at just under 1 kg despite its size.

3. Decide on lights: pre-lit, battery, timer

Every wreath above is pre-lit with 40 warm white LEDs woven through the greenery, so the glow comes from inside the arrangement rather than a strand draped on top. They run on 3 AA batteries — no cord, no outlet, no extension cable across the porch — and a built-in timer keeps them on for 6 hours and off for 18, repeating daily from the moment you switch them on.

If you're torn between battery and plug-in models, we compared both in depth in our battery vs. plug-in pre-lit wreath guide. Short version: battery wins anywhere the outlet isn't.

4. Check fullness before you buy

A wreath's fullness shows in its branch sections — the more sections, the denser the ring. Our line runs from 10 sections on the flocked berry to 16 on the cedar. Whichever you choose, spend two minutes fluffing it branch by branch when it arrives; it's the difference between "nice" and "where did you get that?"

5. Match the wreath to the spot

Front doors and covered porches are the classic placement; battery operation also frees you to hang one above a staircase, on an interior door or over the mantel where no outlet exists. Several styles include a built-in hanging loop, and even our largest gold wreath stays under 1 kg, so a standard over-door hanger handles all of them.

6. Think past December

A good artificial wreath should come back year after year. When the season ends, store it cool, dry and uncompressed — our guide on how to store artificial wreaths covers the box, the bag and the attic mistakes to avoid.
