Where a small wreath actually belongs

Narrow single doors, sidelights, French doors, porch columns, kitchen walls, cabinet fronts and interior doors. Anywhere the surface is too narrow for a 24-inch ring to sit within it, the smaller size stops looking like a compromise and starts looking like the correct answer.

Eighteen, twenty or twenty-two inches

Eighteen is the most compact — a window pane, a cabinet door, a small wall. Twenty-two is close enough to full size that it holds an ordinary door with a substantial frame. Twenty sits between them and is the size to pick when you are unsure whether the surface can take the larger one.

Getting the proportion right

Measure the visible surface, not the trim around it, and aim for a wreath covering roughly two-thirds of that width.
