The autumn palette, and why it holds together

Burgundy, eucalyptus green, champagne gold and softened orange, worked together rather than one colour at a time. Maple leaves, forsythia, hydrangea and berries carry the texture; the shared palette is what makes a 22-inch Halloween piece and a 26-inch eucalyptus wreath look like they belong to the same house.

Twenty-four or twenty-six inches

Twenty-four inches is the safe answer for a standard single front door. Go to 26 if the door is wide, if the entry is set back so the wreath is seen from further away, or if the piece is going above a mantel rather than on a door — at that distance the extra size reads as fullness rather than as too much.
