Forty warm white LEDs run on three AA batteries with a built-in six-hour timer. There is no cord to run back to the house and nothing to remember to switch off — set the timer once when you hang it and it keeps the same window every evening until the batteries go.
Flocked, cedar, pine or gold
Norfolk pine and cedar give an unadorned evergreen look. Flocked designs read as freshly dusted with snow. Gold ball and plaid bow pieces lean traditional. The choice is mostly about how much decoration your entry already carries — a busy porch takes the plain greenery better than another layer of ornament.
Sizing, and one thing to check
Twenty-four inches suits most single doors, 26 inches a wide or double door, and 20 to 22 inches narrow doors, sidelights and windows. Pre-lit pieces carry the battery pack as well as the foliage, so check your hook is rated for the weight before you hang it.
